Our Story
-
It all began in 2022 with a desire to host an unforgettable murder mystery dinner party for all of our friends. We found a kit online that seemed fun, but ultimately it didn’t live up to the vision we had in our heads. The motives were weak, the characters flat, and the interactions scripted. For a group of millennial board gamers who enjoy other roleplaying games, this just wasn’t the style for us.
We decided to take matters into our own hands, and started developing our own murder mystery dinner party kit, complete with fully thought out characters and timelines, hard evidence to support accusations, and enough information and freedom to truly embody your character and hold your own under interrogation.
Our first playtest happened one year later, in February 2023, with our very first game: Last Ride at the Summerville Ranch.
-
We’re a small partnership of two friends who spend weekends together brainstorming ideas and developing new fun mysteries to share with the world.
So far we have created, playtested, and finalized for sale three unique mysteries. Our first two are optimized for a six-person dinner party setting, but for our third mystery we decided to expand our repertoire. Eternal Echoes: Whispers of the Loire is the first in a series of large-group, puzzle-solving mysteries that can be played by any number of participants without any advanced preparation by the players. This mystery was first crafted specifically for the wedding of one of RAPTR Enterprises’ founding members, which was held at the chateau in France that this mystery is based on.
-
We’re constantly coming up with new ideas, and working as fast as we can to get them ready for you to play and enjoy. We plan to expand our dinner party mystery collection to include multiple party sizes, varying difficulty, and unique themes. We also have big plans for our Eternal Echoes series, which will follow the stories of ghosts around the globe who need help from you and your friends. If you enjoy our mysteries, check back frequently for new releases! If you’re interested in helping us to playtest new mysteries, please email us at raptrenterprises@gmail.com.
FAQs: Dinner Party Muder Mysteries
-
We think that playing our games over a nice dinner with friends gives the right level of activity and opportunity for discussion to keep the evening interesting but the game moving forward. However, there is absolutely no requirement that you host the game during dinner, or even serve food during the game. All you need is six players, a place to spread out the evidence, and a couple hours of time.
-
Players will arrive and begin to socialize, in or out of character (up to you), over appetizers. Once everyone has arrived and you’re ready to get the party started, the host will open the “Getting Started” envelope, which typically includes basic gameplay instructions and an introduction speech by one or more characters to help get the conversation started.
Characters will ask pertinent questions of each other, revealing evidence to support their claims when available. The host will have labeled envelopes containing the evidence, which correspond to numbered evidence mentioned in each player’s character packet.
When dinner is ready, we recommend taking a quick break from interrogations to eat and think about the evidence and storylines that you’ve heard about so far. Then once the plates are clear, you can dive back in and work to solve the mystery, including any puzzles or ciphers that may come up.
When the group has come to a consensus about who they think the murderer is, you can “accuse” someone. Each character has a scripted response to an “accusation” (the host will have these envelopes), which will tell the group whether they are right or wrong, and provide a little more information to help get you on the right track if you did not accuse the right person. If you did catch the killer, they will give you the full story of what happened, and then you can celebrate putting them behind bars over dessert.
-
In each mystery kit, you’ll find:
Host instructions
6 character packets (one for each player)
“Getting Started” envelope with instructions, starting evidence, intro speech, etc. (varies by mystery)
15+ evidence envelopes
6 accusation envelopes (one for each character)
Hints, getting started questions, etc. (varies by mystery)

For our dinner party murder mysteries, six players (including the host) are required to play the game. It’s important that all players are present as each person has a critical role in helping to solve the mystery. Additionally, one player will be the murderer, and it would be pretty disappointing if the murderer wasn’t there to face justice, right?
-
Yes, definitely! Although some mysteries require the host to be aware of who the murderer is, we’ve made sure that only the murderer will know who they are. Whether a character is guilty or innocent is revealed within their character packet, and all character packets will arrive sealed and ready to distribute, so the host will never see who the murderer is. This is one of the reasons why you can’t add or remove players from the game.
-
We recommend giving yourself and your guests 1-2 weeks to prepare for the mystery. Each character will be given a small booklet with all of the information they will need to effectively roleplay as their character and answer any questions about their motives and alibis. Given people’s busy schedules, we find it best to provide these “Character Packets” well in advance so everyone can feel confident in their roleplaying and enjoy the mystery to it’s fullest.
That being said, players can reference the character packets for details during the game, and experienced roleplayers should have no problem picking up the character on short notice. So worst case, just make sure to give your guests 5-10 minutes at the beginning of the evening to look through their packet and get a feel for their character and how the information is laid out.
